Steelers reportedly set to sign CB Cameron Sutton to a one-year deal
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Steelers are reportedly set to bring back cornerback Cameron Sutton.
According to a report from Tom Pelissero, Sutton’s agency has said he will be signing with the Steelers.
Sutton spent six years with the Steelers between 2017 and 2022 and started 39 games. In that time he recorded eight interceptions, five forced fumbles, and two sacks. He also had 143 solo tackles.
Last season, Sutton was with the Detroit Lions and started all 17 games with one interception, one forced fumble, and 50 solo tackles.
Meanwhile, the Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac says that Sutton is meeting with the team today and will most likely sign a one-year, veteran minimum deal.
This offseason, an arrest warrant was issued for Sutton in Hillsborough County, Florida on March 20 on charges of domestic violence. Sutton ultimately turned himself into police on March 31 and was booked on one misdemeanor count of domestic battery and was released.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Sutton was released on his own recognizance.
While it’s not known yet, Sutton still could be subjected to discipline from the NFL.
Steelers also bolster defensive depth with Grayland Arnold
The Steelers also officially announced the signing of defensive back Grayland Arnold to a one-year contract.
Arnold was originally an undrafted free agent signing by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 and played in six games that season, starting one of them.
In the past three seasons, he’s been with the Houston Texans.
In 2023, Arnold had 15 tackles, 11 solo tackles, and a forced fumble.
Jack McGregor, a former state senator and the original founder of the Pittsburgh Penguins, died at the age of 91 on Tuesday. The organization announced the news in a post on social media on Thursday.
“The team extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time,” a post on X said.
No other information was provided in the post, which was shared before the team’s game at PPG Paints Arena against the New Jersey Devils.
According to his biography on the United States Senate Library, McGregor served in the state Senate from 1963-1970. He represented District 44 in Allegheny County and was a Republican.
He was born in Kittanning, Armstrong County, and attended the University of Pittsburgh and Quinnipiac University before getting into politics, according to his biography. He also served in the United States Marine Corps.
In 1966, the NHL granted a franchise to Pittsburgh after McGregor formed a group of investors that included H. J. Heinz II and Art Rooney. McGregor was named president and chief executive officer by the investors and represented Pittsburgh on the NHL’s Board of Governors, according to his biography.
The team played its first game in 1967 at the Civic Arena. McGregor owned the team for four years before selling it.
There is also a scholarship in his name at Pitt. It aims to provide “financial assistance to a law student who excels academically and has committed to working in the public sector,” the university says.
