Clouds and some showers today helped keep temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s for highs. Most spots didn’t end up seeing much rain. About a tenth of an inch in a couple places, with others such as D.C. and Washington Dulles International Airport only a trace or raindrops in the air. A couple more showers or a storm are possible this evening. A lot more sun and warmer temperatures are inbound tomorrow.

Through Tonight: Some showers, possibly a storm or two, could roam the area into evening. Most spots stay dry given the hit-or-miss nature. Otherwise, partly cloudy through the night, with another small shot at a passing shower after midnight or during the pre-dawn. Lows end up in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Tomorrow (Thursday): Lots of sunshine. All those rays help boost temperatures deep into the 70s or around 80 for highs. It’s not impossible that we see an isolated shower in the evening but not terribly likely. Winds are from the northwest and north around 10 mph.

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – The House of Representatives enters its last full week before the annual August recess with two committee hearings targeting the Smithsonian Institution set before lawmakers head home Friday.
A House Oversight subcommittee will hold a hearing Tuesday to examine claims that the Smithsonian Institution has worked to “reshape the past.” The hearing follows a White House report released earlier this month that claims the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History “alters and disparages the history of the United States.”
The Committee on House Administration will hold a nearly identical hearing Wednesday.
That same day, President Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to Georgia as part of a tax cut tour ahead of the midterm elections. Trump has been traveling to key states to promote the White House’s tax policy, with the high cost of living serving as a central theme heading into November.
During the Georgia stop, Trump is also expected to promote “Trump Accounts,” a federal savings program that creates investment funds for children.
Then on Friday, the President’s global 10% tariffs on all goods entering the United States is set to expire. The tariffs replaced those overturned by the Supreme Court in February and are limited to 150 days before Congress is required to extend them.

The rain on Saturday helped clear out some of the smoke from the Canadian wildfires so we’re waking up to code yellow in many places across the D.C. area, which is typical for this time of year.
Drier air is coming into the area from Canadian high pressure. While it’ll be cloudy in some places, it’ll be a nice day with lower humidity and less hazy skies.
The remaining smoke could make the sun look a little orange later. Those south of D.C. could see see some showers through the afternoon and evening.

Officers responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike and Fairland Road around 1:45 p.m. on Saturday for a reported multivehicle crash.
Preliminary information indicated three to four vehicles were involved, including a Tesla Cybertruck that was split in half. Multiple people were initially trapped in separate vehicles, authorities said.
