Children ages 6 and 3 killed in Connecticut crash
A two-vehicle crash killed two children and left a pair of adults badly injured in southern Connecticut on Sunday.
Connecticut State police said the deadly collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. when a Ford F-600 Super Duty pickup truck being driven by a 40-year-old man hit the back of a Honda Civic carrying 6-year-old Laura Vitoria Alves Brito and 3-year-old Riquelme Alves Brito. The children were pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital.
A 33-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in the Civic were taken to separate hospitals for injuries believe to be serious. The pickup driver was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital. His injuries reportedly appeared minor.
Parts of Route 8 passing through Beacon Falls, Conn., were closed for five hours after the crash, according to WFSB in Hartford. That outlet identified the adults in the Civic as Andresa Alves De Brito and Thiago Pereira Neves.
Both vehicles were driving in the left lane north of Exit 23 when the collision occurred. State police indicated the crash took place in the northbound lane, but traffic moving in both directions was shut down.

Woman killed in Friday head-on crash in Burlington
BURLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A woman is dead after police said she was involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer on Friday in Burlington.
According to Connecticut State Police, a Toyota RAV4 and Peterbuilt 386 tractor-trailer collided head-on on Route 4 near Punch Brook Road at around 4:49 p.m. on Friday.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 64-year-old Mary Christine Ferland of Burlington, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, according to state police. No one else was in either vehicle at the time of the crash.
The crash is still under investigation by state police, anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Brew at 860-626-7900.
