Katherine Beauchene from Pleasant Valley, Connecticut, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wyoming beginning next fall. She will be the second member of her family to swim in the NCAA, as her older brother Alex Beauchene is a rising senior on the Providence College men’s team.

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Wyoming. Thank you to Coach Dave and Coach Kristin for giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to swim in the pool with the tumbleweeds. Thank you to Coach Mario for coaching me since I was 5, and helping me become who I am today. Thank you to Coach Jason and Mary for an amazing high school career. Mom and Dad, it’s only a 3.5-hour flight to the pool. I’m so thrilled to be a cowgirl and contribute to helping Wyoming get a Mountain West Championship. Go pokes!!”

Beauchene swam and ran cross-country at Northwestern Regional High School in Winsted, CT. Because cross-country and girls’ swimming are both fall sports, she swam with the boys’ team in the spring. She placed 3rd in the 500 free (4:58.01) at the 2024 CIAC Boys Class S Championship, helping Northwest Regional finish 5th in the team standings. She was a three-time cross country all-state athlete, five-time scholar athlete, and cross-country league champion during her prep career, and she was a member of the National Honors Society.

Beauchene told SwimSwam, “Outside of swimming I like to go fishing, hangout with my friends, go the beach, go hiking, and camping,” which makes us think Wyoming is the perfect match for her.

In club swimming, where she trains and competes with Farmington Valley YMCA Tsunami, Beauchene was a top-8 finisher in the 1000 free (5th, 10:17.44) and 1650 free (5th, 17:12.96) at the 2024 YMCA Short Course National Championships. This summer, she earned lifetime bests in the LCM 200 back and 200 breast at the Connecticut LSC Long Course Senior State Championships. Last summer, she notched PBs in the 800/1500 free, 50 back, and 400 IM at the 2023 YMCA Long Course National Championships.

It looks like southeast Wyoming residents can look forward to very warm temperatures over the next few days with continung chances for afternoon and evening storms or thunderstorms,

That’s acording to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service. The agency posted the following on its website:

 Looks like chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms will continue through the extended forecast for southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle. Just about every day has chances for storms. Driest day looks to be Saturday. Temperatures will be on the rise towards the end of the week into the weekend. Mid 90s return to the Nebraska Panhandle beginning Saturday, while southeast Wyoming sees highs in the mid to upper 80s.

A Wyoming journalist has resigned after a competitor revealed that he used artificial intelligence to create fake quotes and stories, including quotes attributed to the state’s governor. The incident involved Aaron Pelczar, a 40-year-old rookie reporter at the Cody Enterprise, who admitted to using AI in his articles, according to a report by ABC News.
Powell Tribune reporter CJ Baker grew suspicious of Aaron Pelczar’s work when quotes from Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and a local prosecutor felt “slightly off” and “nearly robotic.” His concerns peaked with a June 26 article about Larry the Cable Guy leading the Cody Stampede Parade, which included odd lines like, “The 2024 Cody Stampede Parade promises to be an unforgettable celebration of American independence” and, “This structure ensures that the most critical information is presented first.”
After noticing these inconsistencies, Baker met with Pelczar, who admitted to using AI to generate stories and quotes. Pelczar said, “Obviously, I’ve never intentionally tried to misquote anybody,” and promised to correct the errors. He resigned shortly after.
Cody Enterprise editor Chris Bacon took responsibility for the oversight, admitting, “It matters not that the false quotes were the apparent error of a hurried rookie reporter that trusted AI. It was my job.” Bacon apologised, stating, “I failed to catch the AI copy and false quotes.” The newspaper, founded in 1899 by Buffalo Bill Cody, has since launched a full review of Aaron Pelczar’s work, discovering that seven of his articles contained AI-generated quotes from six different people.
Some of the fabricated quotes were attributed to Governor Gordon. Michael Pearlman, a spokesperson for the governor, told ABC News, “In one case, Pelczar wrote a story about a new OSHA rule that included a quote from the governor that was entirely fabricated.” Pearlman added that another story combined a real quote from a news release with a fabricated one.
Bacon observed that the quotes were “very believable,” but none of the individuals quoted had actually spoken to Pelczar. To prevent future incidents, Cody Enterprise is implementing an AI policy, with plans to have it in place by the end of the week. “This will be a pre-employment topic of discussion,” Bacon stated.
