February 19-23 declared Wyoming Agricultural Literacy Week
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Governor Mark Gordon is declaring this week as “Wyoming Agricultural Literacy Week,” recognizing the value of both reading and agriculture.
“Ag Books for Kids” is a program started by the Wyoming Farm Bureau federation young farmer and rancher committee.
This year 710 books were donated to elementary schools across Wyoming.
As part of the program, farmer and rancher volunteer members often go into classrooms for story time and activities to give students an opportunity to meet an actual farmer or rancher, and learn directly from them about the food they grow.
“We just appreciate that the volunteers and the elementary schools that read the book and that participate and have the learning come into the classrooms. The Ag Books for Kids program is really an exciting program for us to really educate about agriculture and share things with Wyoming elementary students about what we need to learn from agriculture,”
Wyoming students and teachers are encouraged to visit their school’s elementary library to check out the 2024 book “Seed, soil, sun” by Cris Peterson.
