Washington County Sheriff’s Department gets a body camera grant
MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office got an $11,000 grant towards their body cameras. According to Major Brian Rhodes, this money will go towards cloud storage for footage collected. He said, depending on the case, they can be required to keep footage from anywhere from six months to an indefinite period of time.
“We’ve got to maintain those records, you know, for court purposes and also public record requests,” Rhodes said.
Rhodes said expanded storage keeps their system from slowing down. All Washington County Sheriff’s Department road patrol units and school resource officers have body cameras.
According to a press release, the grant is coming from the state. Governor DeWine announced it on Friday. The state is giving nearly $4.8 million in grants to local law enforcement agencies across Ohio to cover body camera related costs.
