Utah Jazz vs Brooklyn Nets: Recap and Final Score
The Utah Jazz beat the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center with a final score of 105-94.
For the pro-tank Jazz fans, these type of games hurt. With this win, the Jazz move out of the bottom-three worst records in the league and would now fall behind the Nets in the lottery, should their records tie at the end of the season (pending Brooklyn’s visit to Utah on January 12th). With that said, losing this game would have proven difficult for Utah, as the Nets shot a shocking 7-40 from three, versus Utah’s 14-41. That type of three-point shooting discrepancy is almost insurmountable for any team in the NBA today.
The Jazz were led tonight by Lauri Markkanen’s 21 points and seven rebounds. Collin Sexton chipped in 18 points on 8-14 shooting, while Jordan Clarkson added another 16 points on 6-12 from the field. With Cody Williams and Kyle Filipowski both assigned out due to G-League assignments, Utah’s rotation featured some less-frequented veteran faces. Svi Mykhailiuk pitched in 18 points tonight on 7-11 shooting from the field and 4-8 shooting from three. Micah Potter, while only given nine minutes, scored three points, grabbed two rebounds, and dished out two assists. While both Williams and Filipowski playing more minutes in the G-League does offer some developmental value, a game like tonight would have been a great opportunity to involve them more in the offense, rather than having players like Mykhailiuk eat up playing time. Hopefully the Jazz call up both sooner than later.
For the Nets, Cam Johnson led their team in scoring with 18 points. Ben Simmons offered a double-double, scoring 15 points and nabbing 10 rebounds.
Devon Dampier was all smiles following his debut in a Utah football uniform.
The junior quarterback who transferred from New Mexico in the offseason wasted no time in getting comfortable behind the Utes’ stout offensive line, leading his squad to a 43-10 victory over UCLA while putting together an efficient stat line through the air and impacting the game with his legs.
Dampier completed 21-of-26 pass attempts, had 206 passing yards and two touchdowns — on top of pacing the Utes with 87 rushing yards. He converted several third downs, which kept Utah’s offense in rhythm and helped prevent the Bruins from finding any magic on offense themselves.
Here’s what Dampier had to say after the win.
“The first time I got to wear that you jersey; it means a lot to this program to be a Ute, so just to be out there with my boys, it was great. I mean, I feel like we’re clicking on all cylinders today. We played football at our best today and [we have to] continue to stack the days. There’s a lot we can learn from and continue to get better.”
“I mean, again, we’ve been talking about our [offensive] line all preseason, and I think they showed it more than I did. Obviously those holes are there, and regardless of who’s running that ball, we’re going to get the first down. So I think we showed that we can be very capable of being consistent running the ball.”
“Let’s show that Utah can score on offense too; that was the biggest thing talked about last year, so we made it an emphasis that we’re gonna play all four quarters and we’re gonna put points on the board. So just for us to do that on our side was great.”
“I think just the way I’m able to stay in the pocket. A lot of people say there’s a 3-second rule for a quarterback; you take about 3 seconds, you should be having to scramble. But our offense, I’m able to chill back there and find a receiver. And so it’s a little adjustment, for sure.”
“I think that’s awesome, for sure, but what happens in our building; that’s the opinion I care about, how my boys view me just as a leader, and how I am on that field so, but I love that. That’s awesome.”

SALT LAKE CITY — We’re celebrating the first graduating class of Kings Peak High – a virtual high school in Jordan School District.
“This year marked our kind of a milestone for us,” said Ammon Wiemers, principal of Kings Peak High. “It was our first graduating class that attended all of their classes at Kings Peak High School.”
Full-time students get live instruction twice a week over Zoom and can also meet in person with teachers or for lab work. Wiemers said their format works for students who travel or compete in sports and need more flexibility in their schedule. It also gives students an edge before they go to college.
Graduate Adynn Jones enjoyed her experience.
“I fell in love with the school and the people here. But I’m proud of myself for making it through,” Jones said.
Isabella Vasquez said the schedule gave her free time to spend with family.
“I’m a slow learner so being able to go at my own pace and to work on the classes that challenged me a lot and the classes I found easier to do was super effective,” she said.
The principal said their numbers are growing every year. Right now, they have more than 2,000 students taking one or two classes at Kings Peak.
