HURRICANE, Washington County — A brush fire near Hurricane threatened dozens of homes Monday.
Utah Wildfire Info said over 50 homes were threatened. There were no evacuations as of Monday night, but officials say that could change if winds push the fire onto a new course.
Forward progression of the fire had stopped at about 10:15 p.m., officials said. The fire has consumed an estimated 100 acres. So far there are no reported injuries.
“Just keep your eyes peeled and be ready in case winds switch and it winds its way back towards structures,” said Washington County Fire Warden Heber Heyder.
State Route 7 was closed between mileposts 23 and 26 near Hurricane due to the fire Monday night. The Utah Department of Transportation is advising drivers to use an alternate route.
The fire was burning grass and running. Multiple agency resources responded to the scene, including two air tankers. Crews believe the fire may have been human-caused, but that is still being investigated.
