Body of Utah teen recovered from Newcastle Reservoir

IRON COUNTY, Utah — Search and rescue crews have recovered the physique of a 14-year-old boy who went underneath the water at Newcastle Reservoir on Saturday.

Officers with the Iron County Sheriff’s Workplace stated the boy’s physique was situated at 4:45 a.m. Sunday by crews utilizing underwater drones and sonar.

The search started after the boy fell into the water Saturday afternoon. Deputies stated two brothers — a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old — have been each in kayaks, not carrying life jackets and trying to knock one another out of the kayaks.

“It was reported the 14-year-old didn’t know tips on how to swim, and went underneath in about 10-12 toes of water,” Iron County officers stated. “On the time 911 was notified, the 14-year-old had been underneath the water for roughly 10 minutes.”

People started looking out the water earlier than helicopters from Intermountain Healthcare and Southern Utah College joined the search.

Extra dive groups have been known as out to the reservoir earlier than the boy’s physique was situated Sunday morning.

Authorities didn’t launch the boy’s title however stated he’s a resident of Beryl, Utah.
