Seahawks Reacts Survey: Did Seattle meet your Week 1 expectations?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seattle Seahawks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

It’s Seahawks Reacts time!

As always, the first question is whether or not you believe the Seahawks are headed in the right direction. It’s a weekly confidence poll, which last week was at 94 percent. I would expect this week to remain at a very high percentage, but maybe I’ll be proven wrong.

The next question is about the New England Patriots game. Jerod Mayo won his debut as Patriots head coach after a 16-10 road win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Seattle is still a road favorite despite New England’s upset victory, but do you believe the Seahawks will improve to 2-0? Just like last week, the answers are divided by margins of victory. The majority of you were spot on with your pick of Seattle winning by 1-8 pts over the Denver Broncos.

Speaking of that win over Denver, let’s talk expectations. The Seahawks might have won but it was far from a clean game. While the defense was excellent, the offense started poorly before getting into gear in the second half, and special teams was a mixed bag. If we assess the overall performance of the team, did the Seahawks meet, fail to meet, or exceed your Week 1 expectations? This is a roundabout way of asking if you expected them to win, expected them to win more cleanly, or didn’t even expect them to win in the first place. Choose wisely in the survey below!

Seattle Mariners Prospects Earn Minor League Honors as Season Nears End

Congratulations are in order for Seattle Mariners prospects Juan Mercedes and Jared Oliva, who were honored by the Texas League for their performances last week with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers.

Neither Mercedes nor Oliva are in the organization’s Top 30 prospects, per MLB.com.

The 24-year-old Mercedes is 9-5 this year on the mound with a 2.86 ERA. He’s made 26 starts for Arkansas, helping them advance to the Texas League playoffs. He’s struck out 119 batters in 138.1 innings and pairs with top prospect Logan Evans to make up one of the best rotations in the Texas League.

Oliva hit .600 this past week with a 1.317 OPS. He is 28 years old and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the seventh round of the 2017 draft. He played his college ball at Arizona. This year, he’s hitting .294 with seven homers, 32 RBI and 33 stolen bases.

He’s actually got 56 major-league at-bats under his belt. He’s a .179 hitter with two homers and three stolen bases.

The Mariners farm system is widely regarded as one of the best in baseball, but it’s good to see the non-Top 30 guys get recognized for their contributions as well.

At the major-league level, the M’s will be back in action on Tuesday against the Padres. First pitch from T-Mobile Park is 6:40 p.m. PT.

Seattle proposal looks to crack down on crime, prostitution on Aurora Avenue

Seattle legislation looks to crack down on prostitution

Seattle leaders say they’re fed up with the violence and sexual exploitation in the north part of the city, specifically Aurora Avenue.

SEATTLE – Seattle leaders say they’re fed up with the violence and sexual exploitation in the north part of the city, specifically Aurora Avenue.

On Tuesday, Seattle City Council members are expected to move forward with plans to crack down on gangs and prostitution along the infamous roadway.

The newly proposed law would hold pimps and johns accountable to the fullest extent of punishment, and work to save sex-trafficked women with diversion programs and resources.

Back in 2020, the Seattle City Council dumped its old prostitution ordinance. Since then, city officials report dangerous gangs have infiltrated the northern part of the city.

Police say just one sex worker can make up to $7,000 a night for a pimp on Aurora.

There’s also serious concerns over gun violence in the area.

Between May and July 2024, Seattle police reported 30 shootings in North Seattle along Aurora Avenue. That’s a shooting about every two days.

Investigators say they are targeting children, recruiting kids at local high schools, and even some middle schools.

Seattle Councilmember Cathy Moore’s proposal targets people circling the block looking for sex, or gangs loitering in the neighborhood.

The proposal goes as far as banning convicted offenders from returning to the hot spot of sex crimes on Aurora. It would allow judges to issue a “Stay Out of Area Prostitution” order.

For sex workers, Moore’s proposal looks to provide diversion opportunities instead of jail time.

“It will serve as an ongoing deterrent to this criminal activity,” said Moore.

If the law passes, Seattle Police are expected to provide their officers with mandatory training on how to deal with victims of sex trafficking.

The Public Safety Committee is scheduled to have its second hearing on the proposal Tuesday morning.
