Portland Timbers down Seattle Sounders 2-1 to win Cascadia Cup

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Sebastian Blanco scored the go-ahead purpose early within the second half and the Portland Timbers received the Cascadia Cup with a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Friday evening.

The Cascadia Cup is a three-way competitors between the Timbers, Sounders and the Vancouver Whitecaps. It was created by supporters of all three golf equipment earlier than they joined MLS. The Timbers wanted a win or draw to say the title for the primary time since 2017.

Dairon Asprilla transformed a penalty kick for the Timbers, who snapped a two-game dropping streak as they battle to make the playoffs.

Yeimar Gomez scored for the Seattle, which is also clinging to playoff hopes with seven video games remaining. The Sounders have by no means missed the MLS postseason.

The Timbers rose above the playoff line into seventh within the tight Western Convention standings, with simply six video games left. The Sounders dropped to tenth.

It was the second of three straight street matches for the Sounders, who performed to a 3-3 draw with the LA Galaxy final Friday. Portland was coming off of a 4-1 loss to Sporting Kansas Metropolis on Sunday.

Gomez’s header off a cross into field from Alex Roldan put the Sounders in entrance within the eighth minute.

Portland pulled even within the forty first when Asprilla transformed a penalty kick. He celebrated with a backflip.

Moments later Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei deflected Asprilla’s arduous shot from distance and the match was tied at 1-1 on the break.

Portland took the lead early within the second half. Asprilla tapped Eryk Williamson’s free kick to an onrushing Sebastian Blanco for the purpose within the 51st. It was Blanco’s seventh purpose of the season.

Tempers flared late within the recreation, with some shoving within the 77th minute that resulted in a yellow card for Portland’s Zac McGraw.

Seattle defender Jackson Ragan practically scored with a header off a nook within the eighty fifth.

The Timbers received the final assembly 3-0 in Seattle on July 9.
