Adrian Diaz officially sworn in as Seattle’s police chief

Adrian Diaz was formally sworn in because the Seattle Police Division Chief of Police in a ceremony attended by the Seattle Metropolis Council, Mayor Bruce Harrell, and different high officers.

Diaz has been the interim Chief of Police since Sep. 2020 after former Seattle Police Chief Carmen Greatest resigned in Aug. 2020 after the George Floyd protests.

In Sep. 2022, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell introduced his intent to nominate Diaz as Chief of Police for the Seattle Police Division.

The Seattle Metropolis Council confirmed Adrian Diaz as chief on Jan. 3 in an 8-1 vote.

Diaz held the chief position throughout historic price range cuts and staffing shortages for SPD, in addition to throughout a time of social unrest after the homicide of George Floyd.

He has labored with SPD for over twenty years in patrol, crime prevention, and investigation.

Diaz has stated he’s prepared for the laborious work that lies forward, promising new initiatives to diversify a police pressure nonetheless underneath a federal consent decree to watch use of pressure and biased policing.
