X plans to sublease San Francisco headquarters: report
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — X, the Elon Musk-owned company formerly known as Twitter, plans to sublease its San Francisco headquarters, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Thursday. X headquarters have sat on Market Street since 2011.
According to the Chronicle, a real estate firm has been hired to help sublease X’s headquarters, which span nearly 800,000 square feet at 1335 Market St. The space has not yet been listed.
Musk has hinted in the past that X could leave San Francisco. In May, he gave a noncommittal answer to a question about whether the social media giant will stay in San Francisco long-term.
The building was embroiled in controversy after Musk’s purchase when he installed a giant “X” sign. San Francisco officials filed a complaint and launched an investigation into the sign, which was taken down a few days later.
Before Musk officially purchased Twitter and changed its name to X, the company backed out of a move to open an office in Oakland.
KRON4 has reached out to X and real estate firm JLL for confirmation.
