Survivors of notorious Bataan demise march honored in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — A 21-gun salute rang out and planes roared over the Presidio in a ceremony Saturday commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Bataan Loss of life March.

Organized by the Bay Space-based Bataan Legacy Historic Society, the occasion was held in remembrance of the notorious World Struggle II bloodbath within the Philippines. The Bataan Loss of life March was a horrific 63-mile trek Japanese troopers pressured upon 78,000 American and Filipino prisoners of conflict within the aftermath of the Battle of Bataan.

This 12 months’s commemoration, held on the San Francisco Nationwide Cemetery on the Presidio, was attended by Filipino and American descendants of the troopers who fought in World Struggle II within the Philippines on the Battle of Bataan.

Cecilia Gaerlan of the historic society organized the occasion. Her father, Luis, survived the Loss of life March and lived till he was 94. He died in 2014.

Representatives of the Military, Navy, Air Power, Marines and Coast Guard took half within the occasion, together with others together with San Francisco Sheriff Paul Miyamoto, sheriff’s deputies, law enforcement officials and firefighters from throughout the Bay Space.

California Legal professional Common Rob Bonta attended the occasion. Bonta’s mom was a survivor of a bloodbath of civilians in Los Banos in February 1945 within the Philippines throughout World Struggle II.

The American Legion Riders Chapter 105 rendered a 21-gun salute and the San Francisco Sheriff’s Air Squadron did a flyover as a part of the ceremony. A non-public nonprofit, Memorial Squadron, did a flyover on the finish of the occasion.
