Brock Purdy's pre-season performances raises alarm bells among San Francisco 49ers fans
San Francisco 49ers fans are growing increasingly worried about Brock Purdy, with their breakout quarterback looking increasingly jaded during pre-season.
Having departed the playoffs with a rather serious shoulder injury, it was thought that Purdy‘s battle to be a starting QB in Santa Clara would not actually be with Trey Lance, but rather his own rehabilitation schedule.
All indications coming out of the franchise have been that Purdy was the starting QB and that would not change unless he wasn’t healthy for the start of the season.
Allowing Jimmy Garoppolo to leave the team as a free agent was a bold move considering the lack of experience both Purdy and Lance possess, but there was confidence that the surprise story of the 2022 season would continue to grow, just like Kurt Warner did with the St. Louis Rams.
However, early pre-season performances have dampened expectations with Purdy, despite looking healthy, struggling to show any kind of positive form on the field.
Raiders made Purdy look poor
In what is becoming a common occurrence during the pre-season, the Las Vegas Raiders and 49ers took part in a mixed scrimmage between the two teams.
Over the course of two days the teams battled each other in low-contact game drills and situational practices.
However, a dominant Raiders defense caused Purdy real problems on Friday, as he struggled to find any sort of rhythm.
He was on the field for 39 players in total and in that time, he threw three interceptions and didn’t look at all confident in throwing the ball.
Whether this is a hangover from his shoulder injury is unclear, but during that practice he didn’t look like a starting quality QB capable of leading this staggeringly talented 49ers roster to the Super Bowl.
