Chris Hemsworth was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, May 23, 2024. At the ceremony, Robert Downey Jr. delivered a roast in honor of his friend’s newest accolade.
Hemsworth and Downey Jr. starred in a number of Marvel movies together, including the “Avengers” franchise. The two play Thor and Iron Man, respectively, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After starting out his speech with words of admiration and excitement about Hemsworth’s 2024 film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” he switched gears.

“Now here comes the roast,” Downey Jr. said. His roast was themed around “The Avengers,” with the actor saying that he had reached out to fellow superhero stars, asking them to provide three words describing Hemsworth.
“First off, [Jeremy] Renner says, ‘Absurdly annoyingly amazing.’ [Mark] Ruffalo came in strong with, ‘Friend from work,’” Downey Jr. shared with the audience.
“Scarlett [Johansson] got to the heart of it with ‘sensitive leading lady.’ Captain America [Chris Evans] calls him ‘second-best Chris.’ “

As for Downey Jr.’s own three words describing his close friend and co-star of many years, he chose to go with “Hollywood star recipient.”
‘IF’, ‘THE KARATE KID’, ‘DEADPOOL 3’ AND OTHER HIGHLY ANTICIPATED FILMS OF 2024
Hemsworth’s family, including his wife Elsa Pataky and their three children were in the audience for his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
During his own speech, Hemsworth gave a sweet shout-out to his wife, who is also in the new “Furiosa” movie.
“I want to say thank you to my beautiful wife, who has been here for my entire career basically by my side, endlessly encouraging and supportive,” he said. “And it doesn’t get lost on me that she put aside her own dreams in order to support mine and, again, [I am] forever in your debt.”

“The fact [is] that nothing that I do, any of these moments, these special occasions and events, none of it is special without you by my side. I love you.”

Alaska Airlines passengers refile Boeing door plug lawsuit

Boeing lawsuit overview:
- Who: A group of passengers on a Jan. 5 Alaska Airlines flight refiled a lawsuit against Alaska Airlines Inc. and The Boeing Company.
- Why: They claim Boeing has a culture of “cutting corners” and failed to detect the missing bolts that caused a door plug to detach during their flight.
- Where: The Boeing lawsuit was filed in Washington federal court.
Alaska Airlines passengers traveling on Jan. 5 when the door plug blew out during their flight have refiled their Boeing lawsuit claiming the company’s culture of “cutting corners” put their safety at risk.
Cuong Tran, Huy Tran, Ket Tran and Tram Vo filed the Boeing lawsuit against The Boeing Company, Spirit Aerosystems Inc., Alaska Airlines Inc. and 10 unnamed defendants a few days after voluntarily dismissing their earlier lawsuit filed in state court. Three minor children, listed only by their initials, are also included as plaintiffs.
During their flight from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, the left mid-exit door plug separated from the 737 Max 9 aircraft, “leaving a gaping hole in the fuselage,” the Alaska Airlines lawsuit says.
Rapid decompression of the passenger compartment caused phones, seatbacks and passengers’ clothing to be sucked out of the plane, the plaintiffs allege.
“As a result of this violent and terrifying event the passengers and crew suffered harm including physical injuries and serious emotional distress, fear and anxiety,” according to the Boeing lawsuit.
Boeing lawsuit says company has culture of ‘cutting corners’
The plaintiffs allege the door plug separated from the plane because arrestor bolts meant to prevent the plug from sliding had never been installed and suggest the oversight was part of a pattern of lax safety protocols within the company.
Within the last decade, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reportedly found Boeing failed to follow important safety protocols, such as marking assembly tasks as “complete” even though they were not completed. Boeing entered into a settlement over these issues in 2015 requiring the airplane manufacturer to implement mandatory safety improvements and regular auditing of its systems, the Boeing lawsuit explains.
The U.S. Department of Justice reportedly filed a criminal complaint against Boeing in 2021, and Boeing subsequently admitted to a count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. As part of a deferred prosecution agreement, Boeing again was supposed to strengthen its compliance programs and bolster its safety procedures.
However, the Alaska Airlines lawsuit asserts Boeing’s implementation of safety measures was inadequate and the plaintiffs blame the incident on Boeing’s “practice and culture … of cutting corners.”
They claim the disaster would have been prevented with reasonable quality control measures that would have detected the missing bolts and other potential problems with the door plug.
Another Alaska Airlines lawsuit was filed in January in King County Superior Court in Washington.

The plaintiffs are represented by Brian D. Weinstein, Alexandra B. Caggiano and Dylan J. Johnson of Weinstein Caggiano PLLC and Ari Friedman and Timothy Loranger of Wisner Baum.
The Boeing lawsuit is Cuong Tran, et al. v. The Boeing Company, et al., Case No. 2:24-cv-00791-JNW, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

Donny Sands – Released by Giants. The 28-year-old Salpointe graduate signed a minor-league deal with the club in mid-May after the Tigers released him at the end of spring training. The Yankees selected Sands in the eighth round of the 2015 draft, and he spent the next seven seasons in their system before the Yankees traded him to the Phillies ahead of the 2022 campaign. Sands made his MLB debut with Philadelphia the following September. He appeared in three games as a pinch-hitter and caught two innings behind the plate that season, the extent of his big-league career. The Phillies traded him to the Tigers during the 2022-23 offseason. Sands’ background of being a homeless teen while at Salpointe made national news. This occurred after his father died of a heart attack and his mom Alma had to move to her native Mexico to find employment.

California’s first major wildfire of the season is here, and the newly named Post Fire is not expected to enter the record books in terms of scale or damage. But the nature of the fire in Los Angeles County and the fact that it’s only mid-June nonetheless has scientists and firefighters worried about what’s in store for this summer, reports the New York Times.
- Status: The fire in a mountainous region north of Los Angeles grew to 23 square miles, or roughly 15,000 acres, on Sunday and forced the evacuation of about 1,200 campers, per the AP and the Los Angeles Times. It was only 2% contained as of Sunday evening. No injuries have been reported.
