Oregon women’s golf wins Big Ten Championship, UO’s Kiara Romero wins individual conference title
The Oregon women’s golf team won the 2025 Big Ten Championship and Kiara Romero won the individual conference title.
The No. 5 Ducks shot 12-under 276 on Sunday at Bulle Rock Golf Course to win the team title by 14 strokes, matching the tournament 54-hole scoring record in the process (12-under 852), and Romero finished 7-under with a 4-under 68 on Sunday.
It’s Oregon’s second conference championship in program history, joining the 2021-22 Pac-12 Championship team. The Ducks earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Regional round and will learn their destination during Wednesday’s NCAA selection show.
“Just really proud of the way our ladies performed this week,” Oregon coach Derek Radley told Big Ten Network after the round. “I was really proud of us because the wind switched today; it was out of the South for rounds one and two and we came in with a strict game plan today and really stuck to it. When those putts start falling, I just stay out of the way and keep cheering. I couldn’t be more proud of this group.”
Romero is the third Oregon player to win an individual conference title, joining Hsin-Yu Lu (2022) and Caroline Inglis (2015).
UO’s Tong An finished 2-under 214 to tie for fifth. Suvichaya Vinijchaitham finished ninth (1-under 215), Ting-Hsuan Huang tied for 19th (3-over 219) and Darae Chung —tied for 46th (9-over 225).

Convicted murderer sentenced to life in prison for Falls City, Oregon killing in 2024
FALLS CITY, Ore. — A 63-year-old was sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing a man with a shotgun during a fight at a Falls City, Oregon property back in 2024.
A jury convicted Terry Lawrence Allwen of second-degree murder back on March 20, the Polk County District Attorney’s Office said.
He was sentenced Friday to serve life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Allwen was also convicted of other charges like manslaughter, assault, and felon in possession of a firearm, but the sentences for those crimes will be served concurrently with the life sentence.
Court records show that Allwen was staying in an RV parked on a property owned by the victim, 79-year-old Bo Johnson.
At about 9 a.m. on May 31, 2024, Allwen and Johnson got into a verbal fight over some personal property. During that fight, Allwen got a shotgun from his trunk and shot Johnson once, killing him.
“Mr. Johnson had many more years to spend with his family. His senseless murder destroyed the dreams and plans of so many that loved him. I hope that the fact Mr. Allwen today received the maximum possible sentence will bring the family of Mr. Johnson some relief and sense of justice.”
If Allwen is granted parole, the judge also ordered that he have a lifetime of post-prison supervision.
