Oregon unveils yellow and black ‘Heroes’ football uniform designed by Lanning family
The Oregon Ducks football team announced a unique and meaningful addition to its uniform closet on Sunday.
Oregon revealed a new yellow and black uniform combination known as the “Heroes” uniform, showing support for those who have battled or are battling cancer and raising awareness on the subject. The uniform, designed by the Lanning family, features a yellow jersey with black wings and diamond plating on the shoulders, along with “Stomp Out Cancer” on one shoulder and a “Flight + Fight” logo with a yellow ribbon on the other.
The pants are yellow, and the helmet is black with silver wings on the side. Several other small details throughout the uniform pay homage to design ideas from the Lannings.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning’s wife, Sauphia, is a survivor of bone cancer. The cause is deeply important to their family, and this is the first time the family has had a say in designing a uniform for the Ducks.
The Oregon athletic department posted a touching video on social media of the design process, which involved contributions from Sauphia and her three sons.
Oregon will wear the uniforms for the first time on Friday night as it hosts Michigan State. The jerseys previously leaked on Nike’s website last Friday.

Should You Retire in Oregon? | The Motley Fool
Housing costs are high, but Oregon offers vast natural beauty, with forests and coastlines.
If you’re thinking of relocating in retirement, you might want to give Oregon serious consideration. It features abundant natural beauty, with Douglas fir and Western hemlock trees and many miles of coastline.
Oregon has a moderate climate, with temperatures usually not too cold or hot. It does get a lot of rain, though — averaging between 60 and 120 inches or so per year, which means there is less sunshine than in many other states. If you enjoy the great outdoors, you can swim, fish, ski, camp, hike, and more in Oregon — perhaps in its many national and state parks.
Those who enjoy cultural activities will find festivals for music, theater, flowers, and more.
It’s worth noting that along with natural beauty, there are natural disaster risks — of wildfires, flooding, and earthquakes.
Oregon’s cost of living is a bit of a drawback, as it’s about 15% above the national average, per the World Population Review. Most spending categories are close to average, but not housing. The typical home price in Oregon was recently $511,513 — about 41% above the national average. Car insurance is on the low side, though, recently averaging $2,421 annually, about $596 below average.
Oregon is one of the 41 states that do not tax Social Security benefits — though withdrawals from 401(k) and IRA accounts and pension income are taxable. There is an estate tax in Oregon, for estates worth more than $1 million, and of course federal estate taxes still apply, too.
As you plan for your retirement, you should focus on the quality, availability, and cost of healthcare wherever you’ll be living. Oregon is far from the best or worst on that score, per MedicareGuide.com, which has rated it the 26th-best state in the nation for elderly healthcare.
Many cities and towns in Oregon have been recommended for retirees, such as Portland, Bend, Ashland, Eugene, Salem, Corvallis, and Hood River. Consider spending at least a few months in any location you’re thinking about, to make sure it’s a good fit.

What’s The Drama: Oregon Quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Former Duck Bryan Addison Heated Exchange
The No. 8 Oregon Ducks are beating the UCLA Bruins (1-2) in Week 5 of the 2024 college football season. The 3-0 Ducks hope to stay undefeated in the late-night Big Ten conference clash in the Rose Bowl.
There are five former Ducks on the current UCLA team, including defensive back Bryan Addison. Addison has grabbed attention with two big plays vs. Oregon.
Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel had a heated exchange with Addison after Addison put a big hit Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson. Ferguson went to the locker room with an injury. Addison then intercepted Gabriel and returned the pick for 96 yard touchdown.
Late in the second quarter, Addison intercepted Gabriel and sprinted for a 96-yard touchdown to cut Oregon’s lead to 28-10. It was Gabriel’s first interception as a Duck.
How can Oregon grab back the momentum in the second half?
“Keep playing our game,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning told the Fox broadcast at halftime. “We’ve been able to stop them consistently. After that first series, we settled in defensively. We have to protect the ball on offense.”
Coach Lanning evaluatedGabriel’s play vs. UCLA, including his interception
“Really good decision making until that last one,” coach Lanning said. “That one is over with and we have to move to the next one.”
Gabriel had a heated exchange with Addison earlier in the second quarter.
Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson suffered a big hit from Addison. Ferguson took some time to get up. Ferguson walked off the field on his own power but had to go to the locker room before the half for further evaluation.
Ferguson’s quarterback and best friend, Gabriel, had some choice words for Addison after the hit.
Earlier this week, the senior Ferguson addressed playing some of his former teammates.
“I think it’s just really cool to be able to see those guys again,” Ferguson said. “I stay in touch with a lot of them. We’re really close as a class. Mo (Moliki Matavao) especially is one of my best friends still.”
Specifically, Addison impressed Ferguson.
“It’s the same thing we’ve seen,” Ferguson said of Addison. “He’s a good player. He flies around, he plays hard, and he’s lengthy, so he’s someone who can cause a lot of problems. It’s the same thing I’ve seen from since he practiced here and he was here, just he’s a good player.”

Ferguson suffered a head injury and will not return to the game vs. UCLA, according to the FOX broadcast.
Ferguson chose to return to Oregon for his final season instead of entering his name in the 2024NFL Draft. In 2023, Ferguson finished with 414 receiving yards and six touchdowns, tied for sixth-most among all FBS tight ends. Five of Ferguson’s six touchdowns came in the final six games, including a two touchdowns in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
