No. 1 Oregon football shows off toughness, speed, opportunism in rout of No. 20 Illinois
EUGENE — Toughness, physicality and takeaways were the areas No. 20 Illinois leaned up to achieve its success this season. No. 1 Oregon outperformed its new conference foe in every facet in yet another dominant showing.
Dillon Gabriel threw for 291 yards with three touchdowns and an interception and ran for a score, Noah Whittington bowled over a defender on his way into the end zone and Tez Johnson circumnavigated defenders on his way to score. The Ducks’ defense had seven tackles for loss with three sacks, grabbed two interceptions and broke up eight passes for a 25.37% havoc rate in a 38-9 win over Illinois Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium that was not nearly that close.
