What to Know
If the oddsmakers’ predictions hold true, the near future looks bright for New Mexico. They and the Air Force Falcons will face off in a Mountain West battle at 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday at The Pit. Air Force took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on New Mexico, who comes in off a win.
Last Wednesday, New Mexico’s game was all tied up 30-30 at the half, but luckily for them it didn’t stay that way. They had just enough and edged the Rams out 68-66.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Mexico to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nelly Junior Joseph, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Joseph didn’t help New Mexico’s cause all that much against the Aztecs last Friday but the same can’t be said for this match. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Mashburn Jr., who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Air Force’s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight defeat. There’s no need to mince words: the Falcons lost to the Rebels, and the Falcons lost bad. The score wound up at 72-43. The result shouldn’t come as a shock considering that’s the fewest points Air Force has scored all season.
The Lobos’ victory bumped their record up to 21-6. As for the Falcons, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 16 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season.
Saturday’s contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: New Mexico have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38.9 rebounds per game. It’s a different story for Air Force, though, as they’ve been averaging only 29.1 rebounds per game. Given New Mexico’s sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
New Mexico took their win against the Falcons in their previous meeting back in January by a conclusive 85-66. With New Mexico ahead 44-24 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Rain starts moving into New Mexico tonight, with more rain and mountain snow through Thursday
Grant’s Tuesday Evening Forecast
A storm system will start bringing rain and thunderstorms into New Mexico tonight. More rain and mountain snow will expand across the state through Thursday.
It’s been another mild day across New Mexico Tuesday with high temperatures hovering near and above average again today. High clouds have been filtering some of the sunshine though as upper level moisture increases ahead of our next storm system. We will already start to see some rain develop in southwest and western New Mexico this evening. These rain and very high elevation snow showers will lift northward into more of New Mexico by Wednesday morning, bringing an isolated chance for precipitation to areas along and south of I-40, with a spotty precipitation chance in northern New Mexico. Scattered showers and storms will redevelop across the western half of New Mexico Wednesday afternoon. High temperatures will see little change Wednesday.
Lift associated with the storm system will increase across New Mexico Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. This will cause a big increase in rain and mountain snow form southwest New Mexico to the northern mountains. On and off showers, storms, and mountain snow will continue through the morning and early afternoon, bringing all of New Mexico a chance for rain. Some of the heaviest rain will fall in southern New Mexico, along with the Rio Grande Valley and into the northern mountains. Precipitation will wrap up from south to north through Thursday evening with some lingering rain and mountain snow in northern New Mexico into early Friday morning. Forecast rainfall amounts have been trending higher across the state, along with snow totals. At least a couple inches of snow is likely above 8,000′, with up 6″ above 9,000′. High temperatures will be much cooler Thursday.
Cooler air sticks around Friday with a slight warming trend this weekend. Another storm is possible by Sunday, which could bring back rain and mountain snow chances.

Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos serving as model for expansion in Corrales
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Larry P. Abraham Agri-Nature Center in Los Ranchos was created to be a space for the community to share agricultural resources and learn. Now, Corrales wants in on the action.
“The Agri-Nature Center provides a lot for the community and provides valuable agricultural education, demonstration of agricultural techniques that work well in our environment in our climate, and helps support local businesses at the same time,” Agri-Nature Center Agricultural Program Director William Carleton said.
The center focuses on home-grown foods, sustainable farming, regenerative agriculture through food preservation, and education through hands-on learning. With programs like animal husbandry, water conservation, research into new agricultural technology, and growers’ markets.
“They have all these workshops, land set aside for certain type of gardens, agricultural activities, cooking, and we don’t currently have something like that here in Corrales,” Dean Sherer said with the Corrales Historical Society.
The goal is to educate people and get them involved in more sustainable practices of agriculture to promote more agricultural activities.
Both the Agri-Nature Center and the people in Corrales believe that if they can expand by adding more of these centers in the state, they can become hubs for more and more New Mexicans to get involved in and learn from. “The Agri-Nature Center serves the residents of Los Ranchos, but also people throughout the metro area and beyond,” Carleton said. “This past year, we served 46 different zip codes in New Mexico at our workshops and events.”
Two of their programs in particular have been so popular, they’re looking to expand them. Such as a community garden started this year. This is one of the programs Corrales is looking to replicate in its own community.
“There’s been so much positive feedback with the community garden, and the idea would be to expand plots,” Carleton said. “Right now we have 30, which filled up this year.”
Another popular program they’re looking to expand is a demonstration kitchen, which up until now has only been used for workshops. Going forward, they want to make the equipment available for people to use. Such as freeze-drying foods.
“I see it as a community resource for learning how important agriculture is for us in New Mexico, and if we can sustain it in a better way, if we can learn new techniques to help our gardens grow better and larger,” Sherer said.
