New Mexico governor requests delay on migrants
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham despatched a letter to the U.S. Division of Homeland Safety requesting a delay in transporting migrants into New Mexico. The letter was despatched to DHS Secretary Alejando Mayorkas. Earlier KOAT reporting seems into the specifics surrounding the DHS’ resolution. Grisham acknowledged that her focus, and the main focus of the state, is to help the 1000’s of New Mexicans affected by the continued wildfires. KOAT has made an interactive map on the forest fires from 2022. “The present emergency arising from these wildfires has severely taxed the capability of our state to offer assets to non-New Mexicans,” Grisham wrote. “I can not permit the governments and communities of the state of New Mexico to shoulder further burdens falling squarely inside the federal authorities’s purview.” There isn’t any set time-frame for the way lengthy the delay was requested.
