Las Cruces man charged for threatening to burn New Mexico State University
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Lawyer for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Particular Agent in Cost of the FBI Albuquerque Discipline Workplace, introduced that John Oliver Hamilton made an preliminary look in federal courtroom on Aug. 12 on a legal criticism charging him with threatening to burn a constructing by the use of fireplace. Hamilton, 54, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, will stay in custody pending a preliminary and detention listening to scheduled for Aug. 17.
In line with the criticism, on July 27, Hamilton allegedly made a string of phone calls to the Workplace of Institutional Equality at New Mexico State College in Las Cruces. In these calls, as alleged within the criticism, Hamilton repeatedly threatened to burn the varsity. Beneath federal legislation, it’s unlawful to willfully make any risk by phone to destroy any constructing by the use of fireplace or an explosive.
A criticism is just an allegation. A defendant is presumed harmless until and till confirmed responsible. If convicted, Hamilton faces as much as 10 years in jail.
The Las Cruces Resident Company of the FBI Albuquerque Discipline Workplace investigated this case with help from the New Mexico State College Police. Assistant United States Lawyer Joni Autrey Stahl is prosecuting the case.
