Food stamps: Final direct payment worth up to $1,504 to arrive in New Mexico in three days

New Mexico residents should see their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments arrive in the next three days before the program ends for July.

Recipients usually see their SNAP benefits reloaded on the same day each month, with the date depending on a recipient’s Social Security number, last name, case number, or account number. The range of dates varies by state.

Food stamps are issued to New Mexico residents between July 1 and July 20, a similar payment schedule to several other states.

New Mexico announced in September 2021 that SNAP benefit payments would increase for eligible residents beginning in October of that year. Payments increased by 21% from pre-pandemic levels.

Under this change, SNAP-participating households received an increase in benefits of, on average, $36 per person — or about $1.20 per day. The new maximum benefit for a family of four rose to $835 a month.

In New Mexico, a household of one receives a maximum payment of $250. A household of eight can receive up to $1,504 in SNAP benefits. A maximum of $188 is tacked on for each additional household member.

SNAP benefit recipients across all 50 states and the District of Columbia will see the amount transferred to a prepaid electronic benefit transfer card. The EBT card works similarly to a debit card and can be used at grocery stores and farmer’s markets or at some online retailers. The money is intended for purchasing healthy foods.
