The opposite two finalists are Dr. Bruno G. Hicks, vp of educational affairs at Dalton (Georgia) State School and Dr. David L. Johns, president of Ferrum (Virginia) School.
Barbara Medina has led Northern New Mexico School on an interim foundation because the departure of Rick Bailey, who left in January to turn into president of Southern Oregon College.
The 49-year-old Balderas is a graduate of New Mexico Highlands College and the College of New Mexico Legislation College.

Hicks is high-ranking administrator at Dalton State— Georgia’s solely Hispanic-serving establishment — whereas Johns has been president at Ferrum School since 2018.
