‘Rex’s Law’ passes in Nevada Senate, increases penalties for reckless driving
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Senate Invoice referred to as “Rex’s Legislation” handed within the Nevada Senate on Thursday.
The invoice — impressed by the tragic passing of 13-year-old Rex Patchett in 2022 — will prolong sentences for reckless driving that ends in substantial bodily hurt or dying.
The penalty can be elevated to a minimal of 10-20 years with a further 7 years if the crime is in a college or development zone.
Senator Jeff Stone, the invoice’s sponsor, thanked the Patchett household after the invoice was handed.
“Because of the Patchett household for flying up right here to offer large worth to their son’s life to make sure no different household has to endure the disaster and horrible situation of dropping a toddler to a heinous crime like this,” he stated within the session. “I simply wish to let the committee know, at this time would have been Rex Patchett’s fifteenth birthday. So, I do not know if that is by coincidence or by divine intervention, I would prefer to assume it was the latter.”
