Nevada touches triple digits as it beats Portland 108-83

It’s only been four games, but there’s no stopping Nevada hoops right now. The Wolf Pack hosted the Portland Pilots, defeating them 108-83. Nevada boosts its record to a perfect 4-0.

The Wolf Pack aren’t showing any weakness. Their shooting, including the three-point shot, just continues to get better. Despite the referees calling 50 fouls total, Nevada could maneuver and score its most points in a game since November of 2018.

What Went Right

It was another week of just about everything going right for Nevada. It was Jarod Lucas’ turn to have a career game, scoring a career-high 30 points. He also picked up a rebound, a steal, and three assists.

Nevada had six players reach double-digit points (Lucas 30, Tré Colman 15, Kenan Blackshear 14, Nick Davidson 13, Daniel Foster 14, & Jazz Gardner 13.) Blachsear led the team in assists with 11. As a team, Nevada picked up 31 assists in the win.

Nevada shot 36-59 from the floor, something it continues to get better at. Nevada also shot 23-33 at the free throw line, one of its biggest strengths of the season.

The best part of the win was Nevada’s three-point shooting. Despite being cold in the first three games, the Wolf Pack came out shooting, going 13-24 from the three. Lucas went 6-8, the best of the young season so far.

What Went Wrong

For the first time this season, the Wolf Pack lost the turnover battle. It was only by one (Nevada 10, Portland 9) but that’s really “what went wrong.”

I mentioned the fouls, in which Nevada picked up 22 with Portland’s 28. I’m not sure what the referees were on in this one, but both teams had to worry about the refs. Regardless, however, Nevada will need to keep the fouling to a minimum.

All around, not too much to be mad at. Nevada led the whole way and won both halves of the game.

What’s Next

Nevada will enjoy an 11-day break period as we approach Thanksgiving. The Wolf Pack will stay at home for its next game on Nov. 29 against Montana. The Grizzlies are currently 2-2 and not looking in the best shape. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Lawlor.
