DeSantis slams Biden’s ‘leftist government’ in Nevada for speech
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slammed President Joe Biden and the “leftist government” that has sent the nation into a “decline” with its policies on energy, spending, and the border.
“America’s got to make a decision because we need to restore sanity in this country,” the Republican presidential candidate told a crowd at the annual Basque Fry fundraiser in Gardnerville, Nev. on Saturday.
The “leftist government is destroying cities all over our country. It’s destroying other states,” he continued — calling out California, whose governor, Gavin Newsom, has become an increasingly vocal DeSantis critic.
“I have no interest in managing decline,” DeSantis added. Instead, he pledged, “I am going to reverse it.”
DeSantis made no direct mention of former President Donald Trump or his 37-count federal indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents — promising only that, if elected, “We’re going to end this weaponization of government once and for all.”
DeSantis took the stage with wife Casey and their three young children, who are becoming regulars on the campaign trail.
There was no immediate word on whether he had sampled the fried lamb’s testicles that famously feature on the Basque Fry menu — a delicacy that sparked some below-the-belt snarking from Trump’s campaign.
The 77-year-old ex-president — who leads DeSantis among Republican voters 59%-14%, according to a poll released Friday.– has implied that the governor isn’t ballsy enough to win the crowded GOP primary, subjecting him to a spate of name-calling and criticizing his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
