Memorial Day events to take place around western Montana on Monday

Here’s a look at Memorial Day events happening in Western Montana.

Belgrade/Bozeman

American Legion Riders Chapter 30 will meet at 7 a.m. at the American Legion, ride over to the Legion in Bozeman for breakfast. The group will muster in front of the Lewis and Clark Motel on Main St. A parade will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The Corvallis Memorial Day Parade is set to start at 10 a.m.

Motorcycle riders are asked to gather at 9:45 a.m. in front of the high school and ask for Don Goodnight. If you have any questions please call Don Goodnight at 406-360-5275.

Kalispell

U.S. flags will fly at Glacier High School. This stirring display of 1,000 flags brings the community together.

A ceremony will be held at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery at 7 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m. a prayer and send-off will be held at VFW Post 209 Headquarters, 245 W. Main Street for veterans who are laying wreaths around the city.

A patriotic wreath will be tossed into the Clark Fork by Navy representatives at 10 a.m. Taps will be played.

At 10:30 a.m. a short procession and flag retirement will be held at the World War I Doughboy Statue. Taps will be played.

At 11:15 a.m. a wreath will be presented at Fort Missoula Military Cemetery. Taps will be played.

At 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, there will be wreath presentations. The ceremony starts at noon.

At 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens a flag dedication and wreath presentation will take place. Taps will be played and lunch will be served.

At 2:15 p.m. at Missoula City Cemetery, a wreath presentation will take place. Taps will be played.

At 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery Annex, a wreath presentation will take place. Taps will be played.

At 3:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cemetery, a wreath presentation will take place. Taps will be played.

At 3:15 p.m. at Rose Memorial Garden Park, a presentation will be made. Participants will be walked to all monuments. It takes about 15 minutes.

At 4 p.m. at the Iraq-Afghanistan War Memorial on the University of Montana campus. Wreath presentations will take place. Taps will be played.

Butte

The United Veterans Council of Silver Bow County will host the annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Butte Civic Center at 10 a.m.

The UVC Honor Guard will also conduct Remembrance Ceremonies at the area cemeteries from 11:30 to 2 p.m.

The American Legion Post 1 Auxiliary and the UVC will host a free luncheon for veterans and their families at the American Legion Hall, 3201 Wynne Ave. at 3 p.m.
