Salute to Idaho Agriculture: CSI aquaculture partners with Western Whitewater Association on scholarship
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A couple of months ago, Salute to Idaho Agriculture covered the College of Southern Idaho’s aquaculture program and new fish hatchery, but since then the program received a donation to set up a scholarship to get more students involved.
The $10,000 donation was courtesy of the Western Whitewater Association, and these funds will be used for the organization’s endowment scholarship in partnership with the CSI Foundation.
The goal of this scholarship is to remove the financial burden for those looking to gain more hands-on experience in aquaculture as well as those interested in the future of Idaho’s fisheries.
The Aquaculture and Fisheries Management Instructor at CSI spoke about the impact this will have on the program.
“It’s super exciting, we know we have Idaho LAUNCH starting with our graduates of 2024, but the aquaculture program tends to attract a lot of people that are non-traditional students where the Idaho LAUNCH doesn’t apply,” said Melissa Wagner.
“Just being able to offer this scholarship just kind of helps fill that gap and and this might be a way to kind of help them be able to take classes without leaving their full-time job.”
Western Whitewater Association examined hundreds of aquaculture programs and decided that CSI was the best fit for this scholarship due to the program being one of the top aquaculture programs in the country.
