Musical ‘Cabaret’ at University of Idaho for Six Shows
MOSCOW, Idaho — The provocative musical “Cabaret” will play in six showings beginning Friday, Oct. 28, on the College of Idaho’s Fagerbakke Stage within the Hartung Theatre, 625 Stadium Drive in Moscow.
Offered by the Division of Theatre Arts, the Lionel Hampton Faculty of Music (LHSOM) and the Division of Motion Sciences, “Cabaret” is thought to many because of the award-winning movie model starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Gray.
“Cabaret” examines the decadence and decline in Germany’s Weimar Republic because the Nazis ascend to energy, overturning the federal government and changing it with what would develop into the insidious Third Reich. The interval was marked by large inflation, scapegoating minoritized folks as answerable for the nation’s troubles, erosion of residents’ rights and overt public assaults on democracy.
The U of I manufacturing has two casts directed by Assistant Professor Craig A. Miller for Theatre Arts. Music is directed by Christian Reed and performed by Professor Vern Sielert from LHSOM, whereas dance numbers are choreographed by Scientific Affiliate Professor Melanie Meenan of Motion Science and Shaleyna Higgins.
