‘Monster’ hybrid trout breaks catch-and-release record in Idaho
ISLAND PARK, Idaho — Hailey Thomas was fishing along with her husband Shane and two kids on Henrys Lake on Oct. 4 when she hooked her “monster” catch.
In keeping with the Idaho Fish and Sport Division, the pair had been struggling to catch fish and had simply modified fishing spots when a 36-inch lengthy rainbow/cutthroat hybrid grabbed her line.

Her husband — a seasoned angler and former state-record holder — was shocked by the scale of the fish.
“That’s the largest trout I’ve seen in my life,” Shane Thomas advised the Idaho Fish and Sport Division.
The pair documented the 36-inch catch, noting the fish had a girth of 21-inches. In keeping with the division, the hybrid trout may have weighed anyplace from 17-20 kilos. She broke the earlier state report by 6 inches, which Ryan Ivy set in 2018.
After celebrating the catch with memorable pictures, Hailey Thomas launched the fish again into the shallow waters.
Henrys Lake is understood for its blue-ribbon trout fishing and is dwelling to native Yellowstone cutthroat trout, rainbow/cutthroat hybrid, and brook trout.
