Idaho beet harvest to finish by Nov. 10

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho, which ranks second amongst U.S. states in sugarbeet manufacturing, behind Minnesota and forward of North Dakota, is on the right track to complete harvest by Nov. 10 with sugar content material close to 18%.

Beets are grown within the Magic Valley in south-central Idaho, the Higher Snake River space to the east and the Treasure Valley within the west for Amalgamated Sugar Co.

The Magic Valley and Higher Snake areas have been ending up harvest the week of Oct. 24, based on Brodie Griffin, Amalgamated Sugar’s vp of agriculture in Boise.

“Harvest progress slowed over the weekend with rain (Oct. 22) in most areas and a major change within the climate,” Griffin stated. “The much-needed rain didn’t deter us lengthy as we resumed harvest operations on Monday (Oct. 24).”

Griffin on Oct. 26 stated the Magic Valley and Higher Snake rising areas have been greater than 90% full with their sugarbeet campaigns and the Treasure Valley and prolonged areas have been 65% full.

Harvest was anticipated to complete within the Magic Valley and Higher Snake areas earlier than Nov. 4 and earlier than Nov. 10 within the Treasure Valley.

Sugar content material as of Oct. 23 was 17.69%. “We count on it to extend barely as we end harvest,” Griffin stated.
