Police arrest, charge Hilo couple in connection to alleged theft of rental vehicle


HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police have arrested and charged a Hilo couple after allegedly stealing a rental car in February.

Police identified the suspects as Spencer Ah Nee, 32, and Andrelin-Stacey Ramos, 36.

Officers said they responded to Onekahakaha Beach Park on Feb. 9 after an elderly visitor had reported his rental car was stolen.

Two days later, several people called police to report a domestic dispute in a sedan at a beach park in Hilo.

Police said that responding patrol officers confirmed the vehicle the couple was in was the stolen rental vehicle.

Officers arrested Ramos at the scene and was charged with second-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. Her bail was set at $2,000.

Ah Nee fled the scene, and police said they were unable to find him after conducting area checks.

Authorities said that Ah Nee was identified as the driver and police issued an arrest warrant for him.

Officers said they located Ah Nee on Feb. 24 in downtown Hilo and arrested him for this investigation, as well as two additional criminal arrest warrants.

Police said that during his arrest, Ah Nee was found with a syringe containing methamphetamine.

Ah Nee was charged with:

  • First-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
  • Two counts of first-degree theft.
  • Third-degree theft.
  • Fourth-degree theft.
  • Third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.

His bail was set at $40,100.

The State of Hawaii has increased penalties against intentional or direct crimes against people 60 and older.

Hawaii County accepting applications for Summer Fun employees


HAWAII ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) – The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation is now accepting applications for temporary positions in its 2026 Summer Fun program.

The two positions available are Activity Aide I ($17.50 per hour) and Activity Aide II ($19 per hour).

To be considered for employment, applicants must possess a valid first-aid certification, attend mandatory training June 2–5, and be available to work June 8–July 17.

Applications are available online on the Parks and Recreation website, and must be submitted to the Recreation Division Office at 799 Pi‘ilani St., Hilo, HI 96720, postmarked by Saturday, Feb. 28.
