HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A coconut rhinoceros beetle has been found on Hawaii Island for the second time this year since April.

The State Department of Agriculture caught the invasive bug in a trap this week in Waikoloa, about 200 yards from the Big Island’s last detection in October 2023.

More than 30 traps are set up around the area and regularly monitored.

The CRB is known to target palm trees as well as taro, banana, and Hala plants.
