Cowabunga! 5 abandoned turtles get second chance with Colorado family

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – Cowabunga! A family of turtles will now be living their best lives with a Colorado family!

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says two of its officers rescued five red-eared slider turtles earlier this week.

“[They] were surrendered by an owner. Officer McMullen brought in three personal aquariums to care for them while they were at the animal control office.”

Word got around to that family up the road in Boulder, who had a private pond on their property.

“Red-eared slider turtles are a non-native invasive species in Colorado, and this family can keep them responsibly contained,” the sheriff’s office said.
