Colorado Springs K9 helps in arrest of parolee found with several guns, hundreds of fentanyl pills

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Colorado Springs police are commending one of their most celebrated K9s after the arrest of a parolee found with several guns and hundreds of fentanyl pills.

Police said several units were called to assist after an officer called in for an assist upon finding a wanted parolee. This was on January 30.

They said Colorado Department of Corrections Division of Adult Parole Officer Hathaway found the parolee park a vehicle and enter a business on east Platte, near the Wahsatch Avenue intersection, near Palmer High School. They said the parolee was likely armed and dangerous.

That’s when tactical teams from the Tactical Enforcement Unit, CSPD K9 Milo and his handler, and several others moved into the area. When the parolee, who police do not name, returned to his vehicle, police said officers blocked him in and he tried to ram through their blockade before trying to run.

“The parolee quickly encountered Police Canine Milo and wisely dove to the ground to surrender,” police said in their report on their blotter.

After the parolee was taken into custody without injuries, police said they found a loaded handgun and several boxes of ammunition in his car. After searching, they said they also found more than 800 fentanyl pills and cash.

After executing a search warrant on the parolee, they said they found two assault rifles, three stolen handguns, and more illegal narcotics linked to the parolee.

Police commended the officers and teams involved responsible for the arrest for using minimal force, excellent planning, “and the loud barking of Milo, of course,” according to the blotter report.

So far, the name of the parolee has not been released.
