Colorado woman dies at Grand Canyon after falling into whitewater rapids

A Colorado lady, 68, died final week when she fell into whitewater rapids whereas on a multi-day boating journey via Grand Canyon Nationwide Park in Arizona, park officers stated Friday. 

Mary Kelley was close to Hance Speedy on the Colorado River 9 days into her journey late Thursday morning when she fell into the water. 

Members of her group pulled her out of the water and park officers flew in a helicopter however all resuscitation efforts have been unsuccessful.

The Nationwide Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation into Kelley’s loss of life. 

Final August, an Oregon man died after falling 50 toes whereas mountaineering a path within the park. David Colburn’s loss of life final summer season was the 18th in 2021.
