Southern California mountains get snow from departing storm
The tail finish of the season’s first vital storm dropped snow on Southern California mountains early Thursday as a chilly airmass moved in behind the climate system.
As much as 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) of snow was reported by the Massive Bear Mountain Resort within the San Bernardino Mountains east of Los Angeles.
The storm developed within the Gulf of Alaska and pushed down into drought-stricken California on Tuesday, dropping widespread rain and coating components of the Sierra Nevada with snow.
In its aftermath, freeze warnings had been issued for the north coast and frost advisories had been issued for the Sacramento Valley and the area south of Monterey Bay. Freeze watches had been posted for central coast inside valleys.
One other giant Pacific storm system was forecast to enter California early subsequent week.
