Off-Duty Officer Killed in California Motorcycle Crash
WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) — An officer with Southern California’s Whittier Police Division was killed in a weekend bike crash whereas off responsibility, authorities mentioned.
Lanell Whitfield died within the crash Saturday afternoon within the metropolis of Lynwood, south of downtown Los Angeles, the division mentioned in a press release.
“Officer Whitfield was a beloved accomplice and buddy, and a devoted protector of the group,” the assertion mentioned.
Whitfield, who was in his 20s, grew to become a Whittier police officer final October after working for the LA County Sheriff’s Division, the Los Angeles Instances reported Sunday. He’s survived by his mother and father, police mentioned.
The sheriff’s division is investigating the crash, the Instances mentioned.
