New African elephant joins herd at central California zoo
Central California’s Fresno Chaffee Zoo has welcomed a brand new African elephant to its herd, officers introduced this weekend.
The zoo stated Saturday that guests will likely be in a position see the bull named Mabu on the savanna at its African Journey exhibit.
Mabu was added to the herd on suggestion of the African Elephant Species Survival Plan, which is designed to take care of wholesome, genetically numerous and steady species inside taking part zoos.
Common Curator Lyn Myers stated in a press release that Mabu has sired a number of elephant calves “and we stay up for seeing how he and our two females work together with one another” within the hope that they’ll produce offspring.
Mabu joins two feminine African elephants, a 24-year-old named Nolwazi and her 9-year-old daughter, Amahle, within the zoo’s 13-acre elephant exhibit, the Fresno Bee reported.
Mabu replaces one other male elephant, Vus Musi, who was relocated to a different taking part zoo as a part of the Species Survival Plan.
