Calif. pro rock climber accused of sexual assault in Yosemite
A widely known California rock climber was arrested on Monday after being accused of sexual assault in Yosemite Nationwide Park, federal prosecutors stated Tuesday.
U.S. Lawyer Phillip Talbert charged Charlie Barrett, 38, with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one depend of abusive sexual contact, based on a press release from the U.S. Lawyer’s Jap District of California workplace.
The costs are associated to 2 alleged incidents, one on Aug. 13, 2016, and the opposite on the next day, the indictment unsealed on Tuesday stated.
Barrett was arrested in Mono County and is being arraigned on the federal courthouse in Fresno immediately, the U.S. Lawyer’s workplace stated. If convicted, he faces a most penalty of life in jail and a $250,000 positive, prosecutors stated.
Barrett was born in Santa Rosa, and for over a decade, he has climbed mountains throughout California, based on a Tahoe Quarterly article from 2019.
“Barrett is primarily recognized for pioneering among the hardest bouldering routes in California,” the article stated. “He wrote a collection of guidebooks highlighting among the most troublesome issues in areas all through Yosemite Nationwide Park and the Jap Sierra.”
Final week, a Bay Space artwork director, Stefan Niels Weiste Kirkeby of San Rafael, was charged with home assault in Yosemite. Guests close to Blissful Isles Bridge reported him to park rangers after Kirkeby allegedly threatened and assaulted his spouse on the park.
