2 killed in small plane crash in Santa Monica, California

Two folks had been killed when a single-engine airplane crashed and caught fireplace Thursday at Southern California’s Santa Monica Airport, authorities stated.

The crash occurred on the runway shortly earlier than 5 p.m., in keeping with Sgt. Adam Gwartz with the Santa Monica Police Division.

“There was a hearth,” Gwartz stated. “The aircraft didn’t hit any buildings.”

 There have been two folks aboard and each had been killed, the Santa Monica Fireplace Division said on Twitter.

The aircraft was a Piper Sport, the Federal Aviation Administration stated. The FAA and the Nationwide Transportation Security Board will examine.

The airport’s single runway sits amid residential neighborhoods within the metropolis of greater than 90,000 on the Pacific Ocean. Metropolis leaders and plenty of residents advocate closing the airport, citing noise and security considerations.
