Evacuations underway, roads closed due to 500-acre Crooks Fire in Prescott area

PRESCOTT, AZ — Officers have issued GO and SET evacuation notices for a number of communities south of Prescott because of the Crooks Fireplace.

Crooks Fireplace was found Monday at 10 a.m. roughly 10 miles south of Prescott.

The hearth has burned roughly 500 acres as of Monday afternoon.

As of Monday afternoon, the next areas have been issued GO evacuation notices:

  • Camp Kiva
  • Mt. Tridal
  • Residents situated close to Mount Union and Camp Kippa.

These areas have issued SET evacuation notices for the next areas:

  • Hopper’s Retreat
  • Evan’s Cabin
  • Potato Patch
  • Decrease Wolf Creek
  • Groom Creek and Groom Creek camps

Officers have additionally issued highway closures within the space, beneath:

  • Goodwin Rd – Crown King to Senator Hwy.
  • Walker Rd is blocked at Senator Hwy.
  • Decrease Wolf Creek Rd blocked at Senator Hwy.
  • Massive Bug Mesa blocked at Goodwin Rd.

It’s unclear what began the hearth and if there’s any containment to the hearth.
