Emergency Burn Closure Order issued
(Fairbanks, AK) – The State Forester for the Alaska Division of Forestry & Hearth Safety (DOF) has issued an Emergency Burn Closure Order. The order goes into impact Friday night time, July 1, 2022, at 11:59 pm ADST. It restricts all burning that requires a neighborhood or state burn allow, together with uncontained cooking, warming, and signaling fires.
Actions prohibited beneath the order embrace burning in burn barrels; burning large- and small-scale particles piles; garden burning; business and agriculture burns; and burning in non-commercially manufactured incinerators. Uncontained cooking, warming, or signaling fires, together with backcountry campfires are additionally prohibited.
Cooking or warming fires contained inside a metal ring or different non-flammable gadget, equivalent to a charcoal grill, are allowed.
The order covers all state, non-public, and municipal lands inside the following boroughs and areas (see connected map). Included, however not restricted to, are the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the Matanuska Susitna Borough, the Denali Borough, the Fairbanks North Star Borough, the cities of Delta Junction and Tok and their surrounding areas in addition to the Copper River basin and surrounding areas. Kodiak Island Borough will not be included on this Emergency Burn Closure.
Our state is experiencing ongoing dry circumstances, that are predicted to proceed. These circumstances have led to quite a few giant, uncontained wildfires in Alaska. The Emergency Burn Closure Order is being issued to maintain folks protected and assist stop human-caused fires.
