Black boxes recovered from Alaska Army helicopter crash site
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — U.S. army investigators have recovered flight knowledge recorders from two Military helicopters that collided final week in a distant space of Alaska’s inside, killing three troopers and injuring one other, the Military mentioned Wednesday.
Two helicopters from the first Assault Battalion, twenty fifth Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright collided about 50 miles (80 kilometers) east of Healy once they had been coming back from coaching on April 27, the Military has mentioned. Healy is about 80 miles (129 kilometers) southwest of Fairbanks.
An investigative crew from Fort Novosel, Alabama, went to the crash website Monday, when the flight knowledge recorders, generally known as black containers, and different “delicate gadgets” had been recovered, the Military mentioned.
Delicate gadgets embody things like evening imaginative and prescient units and communications tools, mentioned John Pennell, a U.S. Military Alaska spokesperson. He mentioned the crew continues its work on the crash website.
The Military grounded aviation items on Friday to conduct additional coaching following current lethal accidents.
The Military has recognized these killed in final week’s crash as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Christopher Robert Eramo, 39, of Oneonta, New York; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kyle D. McKenna, 28, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Warrant Officer 1 Stewart Duane Wayment, 32, of North Logan, Utah.
A personal memorial is scheduled for Thursday at Fort Wainwright, close to Fairbanks.
The injured soldier is recuperating at residence after being launched from the hospital, the Military mentioned. The soldier’s title has not been launched.
