Anchorage, AK – Firefighters are at the moment working to extinguish the Beluga Hearth (#529), a 0.2-acre wildfire positioned close to milepost 111 Seward Freeway and Beluga Level, roughly 10 miles south of Anchorage. Floor personnel have contained the fireplace and are being assisted by a helicopter dropping water from the Prepare dinner Inlet. Minimal hearth exercise is noticed on the time of this report. The hearth has been decided to be human prompted and is beneath investigation.
The Beluga Hearth was reported at 1:20 PM Saturday afternoon upslope from the Seward Freeway close to the McHugh Creek Trailhead. The hearth can be positioned a number of toes from the McHugh Hearth scar that burned in 2016. The hearth is in a heavy site visitors space with a bit of ongoing highway building close by.
Two engines and a helicopter with a Helitack crew from Alaska Division of Forestry and Hearth Safety responded with help from Engine 9 and Battalion Chief 2 from the Anchorage Hearth Division.
