2 children rescued after attempted kidnapping pursuit ends in L.A. County
Two juveniles were recovered from a vehicle after deputies pursued a suspect connected to an attempted kidnapping from Moreno Valley to South El Monte on Saturday night.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:06 p.m. to the 25000 block of Sweetgrass Drive in Moreno Valley regarding a report of an attempted kidnapping. After speaking with the victim, deputies learned the suspect had fled the area.
Deputies obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle and located a matching vehicle a short time later, authorities said. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver failed to yield, leading law enforcement on a pursuit into Los Angeles County.
The pursuit continued west on the 60 Freeway into Los Angeles County. During the chase, a Riverside County Sheriff’s K-9 unit attempted a Pursuit Intervention Technique, and the vehicle eventually became disabled near Rosemead Boulevard and Bruin Avenue in South El Monte, authorities said.
Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows a white Toyota Prius disabled in the roadway with flattened tires and visible damage.
The footage shows deputies removing children from the vehicle and paramedics tending to them at the scene. The sheriff’s department said two juveniles were recovered from the vehicle and medically evaluated at the scene along with the suspect, and ultimately no injuries were reported.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s department.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about the incident, including the identities of the suspect, victim or juveniles involved.
The investigation remains ongoing.
