Beto O’Rourke speaks at SXSW as he faces Greg Abbott in bid for Texas gov

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke is predicted to talk at SXSW (South by Southwest) on Saturday, a music pageant and media occasion in Austin, Texas.

O’Rourke, a former candidate within the 2020 Democratic presidential main, is working for governor of Texas and sailed by way of his celebration’s main firstly of the month. He’ll face sitting Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

In an especially shut race, O’Rourke narrowly misplaced his run for U.S. Senate in opposition to Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 and in addition ran for the Democrats’ nomination for president in 2020. 

O’Rourke made nationwide headlines with declarations like “hell sure, we’re going to take your AR-15” in his marketing campaign, which he has since softened.

The Democrat mentioned earlier this week that he has “little interest in taking” assault weapons from gun house owners.

“I’m not focused on taking something from anybody,” O’Rourke reportedly mentioned to reporters in Tyler, Texas. “What I wish to be sure that we do is defend the Second Modification. I wish to be sure that we defend our fellow Texans much better than we’re doing proper now.”

Main the pack at SXSW is keynote speaker Stacey Abrams, the political chief and bestselling creator, who was instrumental in flipping Georgia blue in the course of the 2020 presidential election and the 2021 Senate runoff.
