Former US Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, found dead at Virginia residence: police

A former United States attorney was found dead in Virginia Saturday morning, just two months after leaving office.
Jessica D. Aber, 43, worked as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 to 2025. Appointed by former President Joe Biden, she served in the role until resigning Jan. 20.
In a news release Saturday, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) confirmed Aber’s death, reporting it received a call about an “unresponsive woman” at around 9:18 a.m. Saturday.
While authorities did not release Aber’s cause of death, a family friend told Fox News Digital on Sunday that police believe her death “was the result of a longstanding medical issue.”

“As a matter of protocol, an investigation is underway surrounding the circumstances of her death,” the APD said in its statement. “The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause and manner of death.”
According to Aber’s Department of Justice biography, she graduated from William & Mary Law School in 2006. Her role involved “[leading] a staff of approximately 300 prosecutors, civil litigators and support personnel across four divisions located in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News.”
In her resignation statement, Aber said working as a U.S. attorney was “an honor beyond measure.”
“I am deeply grateful to senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and to President Biden for the opportunity to lead this office and to Attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership,” Aber said at the time. “I am proud of the work we have done with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners to enforce the law and build community trust.”
U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert, Aber’s successor, said he was “heartbroken beyond words” to hear of Aber’s death Saturday.

“She was unmatched as a leader, mentor and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being,” Siebert said. “We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all-too-brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace and legal acumen set the standard.”
The attorney said “each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard.”
“Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career,” Siebert said. “She loved EDVA, and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted.”

Democrat challenging 12-term rep slams 'retirement community' Congress amid youth revolt

In the latest example of the so-called “Biden effect,” a constituent of 79-year-old Rep. David Scott chose to launch a primary run against him after a tense exchange at a town hall, saying Congress shouldn’t be a “retirement community.”
“We just had two Democratic members die within weeks at a time when every vote counts,” Everton Blair told Fox News Digital on Monday of his decision.
“It’s a huge concern for Democrats to accomplish our agenda and to be in touch with the issues of today if we don’t proactively broaden our bench,” he said, adding that Congress should be a representation of the nation’s populace and “not exclusively a retirement community.”
In January, Blair, a former member of the Gwinnett County Board of Education, questioned Scott, D-Ga., at the event and was reportedly taken aback by the congressman’s demeanor and response.

At the Gwinnett County forum, Blair said he would “love to just hear a little bit more of the congressional and legislative strategy, congressman, that you have for this administration, particularly as it pertains to safeguarding federal funds,” according to Semafor.
Scott responded: “Hold on,” and then reportedly became confrontational.
“I don’t know who sent y’all, but we got these folks here who are providing answers. And I’m doing this. That’s what I’m doing,” he said, according to the outlet.
In response to the exchange, Blair launched a primary bid against the 12-term incumbent from Stockbridge – an Atlanta suburb.
“Why are we allowing this to continue to be our representation?” Blair told Semafor after the incident.
Almost 50 years younger than Scott, Blair represents another example of what is being called the “Biden effect” – several elderly, entrenched, Democratic lawmakers either retiring or potentially facing primary challenges following former President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance that led to his own decision to step aside for the younger Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Scott previously went viral for calling a press photographer an “a–hole” for taking a photo of him being pushed through the Capitol in a wheelchair in December: “Who gave you the right to take my picture?” he snapped at Politico’s Francis Chung.
On April 19, the local Covington News outlet in Georgia received a release stating Blair would indeed be running for Scott’s seat next year.
Scott, who is also the brother-in-law of Braves legend Hank Aaron, has been in that seat since it was created following the 2000 census, effective the 2002 election cycle.
“I am running for Congress because it is time for the next generation to step up and correct the direction that this country is headed… Change can’t wait, and Democrats need a new bench of leaders who are committed to solving real problems for working people,” Blair’s release said.
Democratic Georgia state Sen. Emanuel Jones is also challenging Scott and Blair in the 13th District’s primary. The Cook Political Report ranks the seat as solidly Democratic with a D+21 rating.
Fox News Digital reached out to Scott’s office as well as a campaign inquiry box but did not receive a response.
During his 2024 re-election bid, Scott told the AP, “Thank God I’m in good health, moving and doing the people’s work.”

Some states see REAL ID crowd rush, others quiet as deadline looms

Some states are seeing massive lines at Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) locations as travelers scramble to get their REAL IDs prior to the May 7 deadline. Others, not so much.
FOX News Multimedia Reporter Asher Redd was live outside a DMV in Antioch, Tennessee, on FOX 35 Orlando Monday morning, where a line of about 200 people stood behind him.
Redd said states like Illinois, Pennsylvania and Tennessee have some of the longest lines and appointment wait lists through at least July.
NEED REAL ID IN A HURRY? HERE ARE ALTERNATE OPTIONS OUTSIDE THE DMV
There in Tennessee, he reported some DMVs are open six days a week in hopes of getting everyone the identification travelers from U.S. airports and those entering some federal buildings will need.
California is in a similar boat, FOX 11 Los Angeles reported, where some offices are opening an hour early through June 27 for those who started the process online and made appointments.

Meanwhile, Florida is not seeing the same rush. Some people who live in the Sunshine State can skip DMVs altogether, and get their drivers’ licenses at the local tax collector’s offices.
“We are fortunate in Florida since amendment 10, the local tax collectors in the state have done a phenomenal job to ensure the citizens have gotten their Real ID compliance completed,” a spokesperson for the Seminole County Tax Collector’s Office told Fox News Digital.

“Here in Seminole County there are only about 4000 people that have yet to complete it, which is less than 1% of the population,” the statement said.
REAL ID DEADLINE FOR TRAVELERS, SOME FEDERAL BUILDING ACCESS QUICKLY APPROACHING
Instead of heading to the DMV, the founder and CEO of ItsEasy.com Passport and Visa services recommends obtaining a passport card.

“The last-minute rush to obtain a REAL ID Driver’s License is leading to long delays at the DMV and causing unnecessary stress amongst travelers,” David Alwadish said in a statement. “The credit-card sized U.S. passport card is a convenient, secure and affordable alternative.”
“For added security, I love that, unlike a DMV-issued ID, it does not have your address on it for strangers to know where you live,” Alwadish added.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) continues reminding Americans “that starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need to have a REAL ID-compliant state-issued driver’s license, instruction permit or identification card or another acceptable form of ID to board a U.S. commercial aircraft,” according to media releases.
REAL IDs have a star in the upper right-hand corner, TSA said.
Once enforcement begins, the TSA said unprepared travelers arriving at TSA checkpoints should expect delays.

Florida state senator who quit Democratic Party slams it as 'rudderless' and 'without direction'

A Florida state senator who quit the Democratic Party last week said he believes he was pumping money and legitimacy into a party that’s not addressing the needs of working Floridians.
Jason Pizzo announced on the floor of the state Senate in Tallahassee that he was changing his party affiliation to no party affiliation. “Our constituents are craving practical leaders, not political hacks,” he said.
Pizzo, a former homicide prosecutor in Miami-Dade County, told Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher Monday on “The Story” that Florida Democrats were bending over backwards to be critical of law enforcement and finding excuses to seek amnesty for people who commit crimes.

“We’ve had bills recently, people squatting in people’s homes or hotels, transient occupancy in hotels and the Democrats just, you know, keep showing up saying have mercy, have mercy. But to some extent, enough is enough. And that’s where we are,” he explained.
Data from the Florida Department of State during presidential election years show Republicans making significant gains among registered voters.
In 2012, there were roughly 558,000 more registered Democratic voters than registered Republican voters in Florida. In 2024, there were roughly 1.2 million more registered Republican voters than Democrats in Florida.

Pizzo said the shift shows the Republican Party is clearly resonating with voters while Democrats are not.
“They’re not recruiting or retaining anybody,” he told Gallagher. “Democrats haven’t had the gubernatorial mansion here since 1994, so it’s been a little over 30 years. The performance is not there, and they were rudderless and without direction.”
State Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried said Pizzo was one of the most “ineffective and unpopular” Democratic leaders in recent memory.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried spoke with Fox News Digital about Florida’s statewide town halls as part of a coordinated effort by the Democratic Party to host “People’s Town Halls” in all 50 states. (Florida Democratic Party) (Florida Democratic Party)
“His resignation is one of the best things to happen to the party in years,” she said in a statement. “His legacy as a leader includes continually disparaging the party base, starting fights with other members, and chasing his own personal ambitions at the expense of Democratic values.”
Pizzo declined to respond to Fried’s statement, saying he doesn’t “punch down.”
Senate Democrats elected State Sen. Lori Berman to replace Pizzo as the Florida Senate Democratic leader.
