CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for three areas of the state in connection with recent and snow melt.
Doddridge, Pleasants and Tyler counties are under a flood warning until 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Weather Service flooding had been reported in flood-prone locations.
Another flood warning includes Pocahontas and Randolph counties until 11 a.m. Wednesday. Meteorologists said streams continue to rise due to excess runoff.
Minor flooding is in the forecast for Opequon Creek near Martinsburg. A flood warning is in effect until late Wednesday night at midnight.
Heavy wind gusts were reported across the state Wednesday morning both Appalachian Power and Mon Power reported outages of about 3,000 customers each early Wednesday morning.
Most West Virginia public school students are on a delayed schedule Wednesday. Twenty-nine of the state’s 55 school districts were starting either 2 or 3 hours later than normal.
Schools in Greenbrier, Pendleton, Preston, Upshur and Pocahontas counties reported by 6:30 a.m. that they would be closed for the day.
